Spiritual Warfare

Armor Up, Surrendered Soldier

Teaching Objectives

  • 1.Equip believers to fight spiritual battles with biblical weapons.
  • 2.Teach spiritual authority and armor.
  • 3.Strengthen confidence in warfare through Scripture.

Opening Questions

What comes to mind when you think of spiritual warfare?

Where have you experienced what seemed like spiritual opposition?

What does it mean to fight spiritually?

Holy Spirit Moment

Lord, we thank You for Your Word and for the gift of Your Holy Spirit, who guides us into all truth. We ask, Father God, that You make us fully aware of the spiritual war we are facing. Grant us understanding that victory is not achieved through our own strength or the weapons of this world, but rather by submitting to Your will and purpose for our lives in the spirit. Empower us to walk in the attitude of victory, knowing that the war has already been won through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Teaching

Kingdom Territory Begins Within

In Luke 17:21, Jesus declares: 'The kingdom of God is within you.' Before territory is taken in cities, culture, family, or influence — territory must first be taken in the heart. The first ground Christ conquers is not geographic. It is internal. When we surrender the throne of our heart to Christ, we allow the true King to take His seat. Without this surrender, we attempt to advance 'Kingdom work' while still being ruled by wounded emotions, pride, offense, or fear.
Ephesians 6:11-13

"Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms."

Three Powerful Truths

1. The Fight Is Not Natural

When we lack understanding and the heart is not surrendered, we fight people, situations, circumstances, political systems, family members, church conflicts. But Paul says clearly — that is not the real battle. If the Kingdom has not first taken territory within, we mistake visible conflict for the true enemy.

2. There Is a Spiritual System at Work

Paul identifies rulers, authorities, powers of this dark world, and spiritual forces in heavenly realms. This system functions through carefully crafted schemes, deceptive strategies, and ancient strongholds. When we hold onto wounds such as offense, unforgiveness, anger, malice, or resentment, these unhealed places make us reactive rather than spiritually discerning.

3. Armor Is Put on After Surrender

Armor implies awareness, readiness, authority, and identity. But armor only fits a surrendered soldier. If our hearts are not healed, armor becomes a costume. If our emotions rule us, we fight with natural weapons — harsh words, withdrawal, control, manipulation, bitterness. But when Christ rules within, we fight differently.

David: The Warrior Who Knew His Source

When we think of a warrior in Scripture, we often think of David — giant slayer, psalmist, king, conqueror. But David's power was never rooted in physical strength. It was rooted in Kingdom identity. Before David ever defeated Goliath publicly, he learned to trust God privately. Before he wore a crown, he wore surrender. Before he commanded armies, he commanded his heart. David was called 'a man after God's own heart' (1 Samuel 13:14). What made him powerful was not his sword — it was his submission, his bow.
1 Samuel 17:45

"You come to me with sword and spear… but I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts."
